GOP Steps Up Anti-Hillary Campaign

The Republican National Committee has launched a new anti-Hillary Clinton campaign, seeking contributions to help the GOP stop the Hillary “fundraising juggernaut.”

In an e-mail to supporters, RNC Chairman Robert M. Duncan notes that the Clinton campaign said it raised $27 million in the third quarter of this year, putting her “total campaign cash” at $90 million for the year.

He also points out that Democrats have taken in $100 million more than Republicans this year, not counting the “hundreds of millions of dollars Big Labor, Hollywood elites and liberal groups like MoveOn.org are raising to defeated Republicans in 2008.”

If Republicans don’t close the fundraising gap by the end of 2007, “we will not be able to defend our candidates from their vicious attacks and outright distortions,” Duncan writes.

The e-mail goes on to attack Hillary for her “Hillary-Care 2.0” health care proposal, and her refusal to denounce MoveOn.org’s ad calling General David Petraeus “General Betray Us.”

Hillary is also under attack on another front. The Stop Hillary political action committee is set to run an ad in the Washington, D.C.-based publication Roll Call headlined: “What’s the difference between … lifeguards & Norman Hsu, a top Hillary Clinton fundraiser?”

The answer: “Today even many lifeguards are required to get background checks. But Hillary Clinton’s campaign failed to do a proper background check on Norman Hsu, a convicted felon and fugitive.”

Hsu raised $850,000 for Clinton’s campaign before he was arrested on charges stemming from a 1992 fraud case.

The ad states: “The Clinton campaign’s failure to discover the fugitive warrant for Mr. Hsu is disturbing … We request an immediate investigation by the Senate Ethics Committee.”
