New RNC Commercial Rips Obama on Economy

The economy’s recovery remains tenuous, and unemployment still stands above 9 percent. So it makes perfect sense that Republicans would go after President Barack Obama for his handling of the economy. And the Republican National Committee (RNC) is doing just that in a new commercial it unveiled today.

The 30-second spot, titled "Change Direction," criticizes the president for "left turn after left turn" in his economic policies. The RNC embarked on what was described as a "light national cable buy" for the commercial, which will be accompanied by online and digital advertising that will change each week.

The commercial carries a montage of action-movie-style smash-ups, warning that Obama's economic policies would "drive us to disaster."

Brad Woodhouse, communications director of the Democratic National Committee, challenged the ad, saying, in part: “No one should be surprised that the Republican Party, much like its candidates for president, are trying to mislead voters about the state of the economy.

"While the president continues to fight to clean up an economic mess that was years in the making, Republicans would rather run negative ads than offer positive ideas," Woodhouse said.
