WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Secretary of State Colin Powell is ruling out a return to government service but says he remains supportive of President Barack Obama.

Powell says he hopes Obama will take on the sluggish economy and unemployment in his State of the Union address.

The retired general and moderate Republican says he is not interested in a job in the Obama administration and wants to stay in private life.

More than two years after endorsing Obama's presidential candidacy, Powell acknowledges setbacks and says that the president still has, in his words, "a way to go" in dealing with America's problems.

Powell says that "Superman" wasn't elected to the White House and but he is confident that today's challenges can be met.

His comments came Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union."
