Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, voicing a new radio ad for Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell, slams the GOP establishment for showing "desperation" in its strident efforts on behalf of Rep. Mike Castle to defeat O'Donnell in the Delaware primary Tuesday.

"The wave of positive change can really sweep across our land with the election of constitutional conservatives like Christine who promise to use common sense and reign in federal government spending," Palin states in the ad. "And I can relate to the vicious personal attacks on Christine and can tell you it’s sad to see the establishment's desperation in this."

Story continues below.

The national and state arms of the GOP have thrown their weight behind Castle, a moderate Republican whom teaparty activists have slammed as a RINO — Republican in name only.

Political insiders believe that Castle is virtually a sure bet in November but worry that O'Donnell would be viewed as too extreme in Delaware, where registered Democrats outnumber Republicans by a 3-to-1 margin.

"Christine will support efforts for America's energy security, and patient-centered healthcare reform, and cutting government waste and letting the private sector thrive and prosper," Palin states in the ad. "We just can’t afford more of the same in Washington, and Christine will help usher in the real change that we need to get America on the right track."

A new Public Policy Polling survey released Monday shows O'Donnell with a 3-point lead, 47 to 44 percent, which is within the poll's 3.8 percent margin of error.
