A new book by best-selling authors Edward Klein and John LeBoutillier, “The Obama Identity,” is making waves just days after being published.

“The Obama Identity: A Novel (Or Is It?)” is a satirical work whose main character, CIA agent Theodore J. Higginbothem III, is ordered to check out all the conspiracy theories about President Barack Obama, including claims made about his place of birth, his Muslim past and socialist leanings.

An item in the New York Post’s Page Six column on Monday said the book, which hit bookstores Tuesday, explores “every conspiracy theory about the commander in chief, including that he was born on foreign soil and is a Muslim.”

And Vanity Fair’s website features an excerpt from the book, in which a fictional character claims to have proof that Obama was not born in Hawaii.

LeBoutillier is a former New York Republican congressman, and Klein is former editor in chief of the New York Times Magazine. His most recent nonfiction book is “Ted Kennedy: The Dream That Never Died.”

Klein told Newsmax that the reason people are questioning Obama’s identity “is because he is an unknowable person, and when people are like that, it means they don’t know themselves what they stand for.”

And LeBoutillier observed: “‘The Obama Identity,’ while humorous, has a serious message: America cannot and will not be saved by any one man or messiah.”

Legendary radio talk show host Barry Farber called the book a “clever, right-on-target satire of the Age of Obama.”

And David Freeman, author of “It’s All True: A Novel of Hollywood,” said “The Obama Identity” is a “wicked satire of the 44th president and the rascals who surround him.”
