WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says the struggles of Jesus Christ through death and resurrection put the political battles of Washington "in perspective."

Hosting an Easter prayer breakfast at the White House for the second straight year, Obama said his own plate's been full lately, and critical national debates are raging. But when it comes to understanding what's truly important, "Nothing beats Scripture and the reminder of the Eternal."

Obama spoke just before heading to a town meeting in Virginia on his deficit plan -- the beginning of a coast-to-coast tour promoting his fiscal blueprint as more balanced than the pushed by congressional Republicans.
