President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner are getting set to tee it up. Obama, an estimated 17 handicap, has invited Boehner, an 8 handicap, to join him for a round of golf on June 18, and the speaker has accepted,
Politico reports.
This will mark one of the few times Obama has played with an elected figure, let alone a Republican. It will be the first time Obama has played with a sitting member of Congress. Many presidents have been passionate about golf, and the sport is starting to replace basketball as Obama’s favorite. But the other presidents, such as Bill Clinton, were more public about their golf activity.
“To a certain extent, his insularity as a president, relying on a relatively small circle of advisers, is reflected in the small group of guys he plays golf with,” Don Van Natta, who has written a book on presidential golf, told Politico.
