Bill O'Reilly, the Fox News star whose top-rated cable show has many in the left-wing media dripping with envy, is firing back at one gadfly.
O'Reilly dedicated his Talking Points lead-in Friday night to Hollywood director Robert Greenwald, a man O'Reilly describes as a "fanatical leftist who is obsessed with Fox News."
Greenwald has been a one man-enterprise aimed almost entirely at Fox News. He produced the 2004 documentary, "Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism," which purports to reveal the network's conservative bias.
But Greenwald's latest effort has O'Reilly buzzing.
"A few days ago, Greenwald announced he would assemble some veterans to object to my telling John Edwards that the economy is not responsible for homeless vets. Addiction and mental illness is," O'Reilly says.
Greenwald is trying to embarrass "The O'Reilly Factor," O'Reilly claims, and notes that the media vigilante "called two corrupt entities in the press, the Rush & Molloy gossip column in the New York Daily News and NBC News, to try to get coverage of his vet exposition."
"The problem was Greenwald couldn't get very many vets ... no more than six ..."
Still, Greenwald's stunt got press coverage. The Daily News, O'Reilly says, "printed a hatchet job about the situation today, and even sent one of their minions to observe what happened."
NBC News, he revealed, even sent a camera crew.
All this adds more evidence that big media are suffering from "Fox News Derangement Syndrome," O'Reilly adds.
"NBC news hates us because we are costing them hundreds of millions of dollars. We are kicking their butt around the block."
