As the clock ticked down on the midterm elections, the Republican and Democratic National Committees racked up $30 million in debt, according to The Washington Post.  The newspaper’s column "The Fix" says that Federal Election Commission reports show that in the most recent reporting period the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee ended up with $19 million in debt and the National Republican Congressional Committee with $12 million in debt.

The Post also notes that the FEC reports show the DCCC almost outspent the NRCC two-to-one, $55 million to $31 million, in its failed bid to hold on to congressional control.
