McCain to GOP Candidates: ‘Be More Respectful’

Add Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., to the list of Republicans worried about the spats between Republican presidential candidates. He says they should be nicer to each other, Politico reports.

“I think they should be more respectful,” McCain told the “Early Show” on CBS. “I am a bit concerned because, obviously, the people who are making this judgment [GOP primary voters] aren’t as much interested in seeing fighting as they are in judging the candidate’s knowledge, expertise, and talent.”

It’s a bit ironic for McCain to criticize his fellow Republicans, given that his own presidential primary campaign during 2008 wasn’t exactly a love-in with his fellow candidates.

To be sure, McCain says the party will persevere. “I think they will move beyond it, because I think the candidates feel that it really doesn’t help their cause, particularly since it’s the general election that really is their ultimate goal,” he said.
