President Barack Obama’s stepmother is now a British citizen. Kezia Obama has been a resident of the United Kingdom for nearly 10 years, London’s The Telegraph reported.

The 68-year-old, who was married to Obama’s late father, attended the president’s inauguration in 2009. She lives in the town of Bracknell, about 30 miles outside of London. Born in Kenya, she is the grandmother of 13, the paper reported.

“I am so happy, because I have been waiting for it for a long time,” she said of becoming a citizen. “I am so proud.”
