GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain says former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty gambled on winning Saturday’s Iowa Straw Poll — and lost, Politico reports.

“He made a big investment, he doubled-down, as we call it, and it didn’t pay off," Cain said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union, citing news reports that the ex-Minnesota governor spent as much as $1 million on the straw poll.

Cain, who finished fifth, said he does not plan to leave the race anytime soon.

“We had four buses to bring people here,” said Cain, noting that Bachmann had 40 buses shuttling supporters to the straw poll. “We spent zero on TV, zero on the radio. So this campaign is encouraged and our momentum continues to grow.”
