Declared GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich and his wife Callista were showered with glittery confetti shaken from a cracker box Tuesday. "Feel the rainbow, Newt! Stop the hate! Stop anti-gay politics!" the protester yelled during the deed, which occurred during the couple's appearance at a book-signing at a Minneapolis hotel, according to a CBS News report.

Reportedly, the prankster appeared to be Nick Espinosa – already known for dumping a load of pennies in the lap of a GOP candidate for governor last year.

Espinosa emailed reporters later on Tuesday, attaching pictures of the prank and declaring that he was protesting a proposal to amend Minnesota's Constitution to ban gay marriage.

The confetti caper capped an unfortunate Tuesday for the power couple.

That same day, Callista Gingrich’s financial disclosure form showed they recently had owed American Express between $15,000 and $50,000 dollars. Meanwhile, there was also a bill for between $250,000 and $500,000 dollars owed to Tiffany's jewelry store.
