A new Gallup poll confirms what has become increasingly obvious: Americans are fed up with their government. A record high 81 percent of Americans are dissatisfied with the way the country is being governed, the poll showed.

Congress particularly takes it on the chin, with 82 percent of Americans disapproving of how it’s performing its job. An all-time high of 57 percent have little or no confidence in the federal government to solve domestic problems.

The poll shows that Americans believe, on average, that the federal government wastes 51 cents of every tax dollar. And 49 percent of Americans believe the federal government has become so large and powerful that it poses an immediate threat to the rights and freedoms of ordinary citizens. In 2003, only 30 percent believed this.
