Some might view it as sour grapes, but the National Republican Senatorial Committee contends it’s just politics: It won’t send money to tea party fave Christine O’Donnell for her campaign as the GOP nominee for the U.S. Senate from Delaware because it doesn’t think can beat the Democrat. The committee’s decision to withhold its cash comes despite the fact that O’Donnell rode the tea party wave and Sarah Palin’s endorsement to an upset victory over Republican establishment candidate Rep. Mike Castle in the primary Tuesday.

O'Donnell, Palin, GOP, Delaware, CastleO'Donnell's reaction: So what, she seemed to say on ABC's "Good Morning America." today. "That's a shame, but they never thought I could win this race, and I believe that we can win without them," O'Donnell is quoted as saying on The Hill's Blog Briefing Room.

Later, she said, "They also said that Ronald Reagan wasn't electable."

The senatorial committee says it tries to get the most bang for its buck, and O’Donnell trails her general election opponent, Democrat Chris Coons, in polls, according to the Wall Street Journal’s Washington Wire political blog. If O’Donnell can sprint to a better showing, the committee might reconsider and toss some financial support her way, the blog reported.

Or, perhaps the committee is chafing from the fact that the Tea Party Express pitched $250,000 O’Donnell’s way to help her knock off the establishment candidate.

In the run-up to the general election, O'Donnell says, she can win with a mere million bucks.
