So Romney’s total sounds pretty good — until you compare it with President Barack Obama’s.
His re-election campaign and a joint fund set up with the Democratic National Committee publicly set a $60 million target for the quarter. And they’re sure to break that, Democratic sources say. The official numbers will be filed with the Federal Election Commission July 15.
Republicans are understandably concerned about the money gap. “There’s not any doubt that Obama is going to raise more money than anybody has ever raised running for president,” said Henry Barbour, a Republican National Committee member and the governor’s nephew. “Is that sobering? Sure it is. It’s a wake-up call.”
