GOP Freshmen Pledge to Limit Their Own Terms

Wednesday, 10 Nov 2010 02:29 PM

Many of the incoming Republican congressmen hew to the old workplace adage “last in, first out.” About half of the 80-plus Republican House freshmen – and a few incoming senators – pledge to limit their time in Congress.

And some promise to support term-limit legislation as well, Politico reports.

GOP, freshmen, term, limitsThe congressmen are generally imposing limits of six to 12 years on their tenure. Mike Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania says he will stay a maximum of three terms. Allen West (pictured) of Florida set his limit at four terms. David Schweikert of Arizona promised to serve no more than six terms.

“By term limiting myself to eight years, I can focus on doing what it takes to solve the nation’s problems, instead of doing what it takes to further my political ambitions,” Jon Runyan of New Jersey said after his primary victory.
