Ferraro Fires Back at Obama on Rev. Wright

Former Hillary Clinton staffer Geraldine Ferraro says she objects to Barack Obama comparing her to his pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright in a speech, calling Wright a “racist bigot.”

Ferraro resigned from Clinton’s campaign finance team after she asserted that Obama wouldn’t be the strong candidate he is if he were white.

Speaking about Rev. Wright, whose heated anti-U.S. sermons have created controversy, Obama said in a speech on Tuesday: “We can dismiss Reverend Wright as a crank or a demagogue, just as some have dismissed Geraldine Ferraro, in the aftermath of her recent statements, as harboring some deep-seated racial bias.”

In an interview Thursday with The Daily Breeze, a Los Angeles newspaper, former vice presidential candidate Ferraro declared:

“To equate what I said with what this racist bigot has said from the pulpit is unbelievable. [Obama] gave a very good speech on race relations, but he did not address the fact that this man is up there spewing hatred.

“What this man is doing is spewing that stuff out to young people, and to younger people than Obama, and putting it in their heads that it’s O.K. to say ‘God damn America’ and it’s O.K. to beat up on white people. You don’t preach that from the pulpit.”

Ferraro told The Daily Breeze that she felt Obama’s speech was “excellent” over all, but she had “no clue” why he included her in the speech, and believes Obama’s association with Wright raises questions about his judgment.
