Ed Koch: Rep. Weiner Should Seek Police Help

Thursday, 02 Jun 2011 02:29 PM

Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., is “in trouble” and needs to work with police to find the alleged hacker who accessed his Twitter account, said former New York City Mayor Ed Koch on his radio show, reports the New York Post.

“It's not too late to prevent damage by turning [the Twitter case] over to the Capitol police and let them find the hacker," Koch said.

Koch also suggested that Weiner may not have gone to the police because there’s been no crime.

"You do commit a crime if you give false information to the police and report a crime when a crime didn't take place.”

A photo of Weiner’s crotch was sent from his Twitter account to a 21-year-old Seattle college student last week.

Weiner claimed a prankster had hacked his account, but has been reticent to confirm whether the photo is of him.

A political insider told the Post that the longer Weiner holds out on this issue, the worse it will hurt his 2013 New York City run for mayor.

"As they say, the cover-up is worse than the crime. If it is him [in the photo], playing these crazy games is not going to help him. Voters are going to take a second look at Anthony Weiner, and what they see is not going to be pretty," the source said.
