WASHINGTON (AP) — The president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce says it's foolish for Republicans to attack Mitt Romney over his venture capital firm.

Thomas Donohue says he's disappointed in Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry for attacking Romney.

Donohue says the attacks are foolish but should die down soon. The chamber chief says the Republican presidential hopefuls are setting up an ad campaign for President Obama to use against Romney.

The chamber usually stays out of presidential politics. But Donohue says Romney has "extraordinary business experience."

Donohue says the chamber opposes Obama on policies from regulations to energy policy.
