Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said he wants the Washington to stop spending taxpayers’ money to aid college students — one day after President Barack Obama announced plans to ease student-loan debt.

Herman Cain, college, education“I do not believe that it is the responsibility of the federal government to help fund a college education,” Cain said at an education forum in New York sponsored by News Corp. and the College Board, the New York Post reported.

Speaking by satellite from Arkansas, Cain said he put himself through college by working multiple jobs, and added: “I don’t believe you can micromanage a good education out of Washington, D.C.”
