As details emerge about Anthony Weiner's continued "sexting" to women even after his resignation from Congress in 2011, more information has become available about a woman he was involved with as late as November 2012.
The woman reportedly at the center of the latest scandal plaguing the Democratic New York City mayoral candidate was identified by Buzzfeed
as Sydney Leathers, a 23-year-old liberal activist from Indiana, who reportedly got in touch with Weiner on Facebook in July 2012.
Within a week, the two were reportedly having daily phone sex calls that went on for six months and sending sexually explicit phone messages.
In a statement to the site The Dirty, which published the initial exchanges, Leathers said, "Although I was 22 and technically an adult, I was obviously immature and I acted irresponsibly. I realize my correspondence with Mr Anthony Weiner was a huge mistake and I am embarrassed by it. But the facts are the facts, and he’s running for mayor of NYC so I felt I should get my story out there."
According to the London Daily Mail
, Leathers was a field organizer for President Barack Obama's re-election campaign and is a blogger for the Indiana Progressive Liberals. Her Twitter account says she also volunteered for Elizabeth Warren's 2012 senatorial campaign.
In June 2011, she posted on her Facebook page that Weiner’s political record meant he could "continue sending d*** pics every single day for the rest of his life." A few months earlier she posted a video of Weiner with the caption "Hero," according to the Mail.
Under her interests, Leathers lists "Politics. Gossip. Life." On Instagram, she calls herself a "Writer, Artist. Political Blogger/Political Satirist/Political News Junkie. Animal Lover Extraordinaire."
She has more than 2,000 followers on Facebook, which she uses as a platform to criticize conservative positions on a number of different issues.
