House Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday contradicted her Senate counterpart by saying a deal on the fiscal cliff can be reached by Christmas.
Speaking on CBS’s “This Morning,” Pelosi said she was “more optimistic” than Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid about a deal,
She called the Republicans’ lead negotiator, House Speaker John Boehner “a well-intentioned person,” who knows the risk of failing to reach a compromise.
“This isn’t about us, this is about the American people,” Pelosi said.
On Tuesday Reid had said reaching a deal on the cliff before Christmas was “extremely difficult,” due to the lack of time to draw up legislation. “Until we hear something from Republicans, there's nothing to draft," Reid said.
