The Republican Party has been hijacked by its right wing during the government shutdown controversy, says House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

"They have something going on. I say to Republicans, 'Take back your party,'" Pelosi said on "CBS This Morning."

Story continues below video.

Conservative Republicans put strong pressure on House Speaker John Boehner not to allow a vote on the budget plan passed by the Democratic-controlled Senate. Some political commentators say that bill might have passed with support from Democrats and moderate Republicans.

Boehner on Friday called on Democrats to return to the negotiating table.

But Pelosi insisted it's the Republican Party's internal struggles are preventing an agreement to end the shutdown.

"It will take some coming together on the Republican side. It’s very hard to negotiate with Republicans when they can’t negotiate with themselves," she said.

Democrats already have accepted Republicans' stance on spending numbers, she said. "They do not have within their own ranks the ability to take yes for an answer."
