Rush Limbaugh decried the Obama administration's lack of leadership abroad, calling the mounting protests in Egypt a predictable "sideshow" as a result of the president's policies, which he said amount to mere optics.

Speaking by phone to Fox News Tuesday, Limbaugh said Obama cares more about image than going after militant Islamists and bringing real change in the fractious Middle East. He said Egyptians were lied to and he called President Mohamed Morsi, who assumed office just a year ago, "just a front."

"I don't think any of this is surprising to anybody in the Obama regime. They are going to keep sending the jets, keep providing the money . . . Everything is so predictable," he told Fox, noting Obama's failure to condemn the violence. "This is a harbinger of what's coming and we supported this. We helped install this."

"I’m totally confused by Egypt," Limbaugh said of the reaction there. "I thought this is what we wanted when the Arab Spring was taking place a couple years ago. Everybody was making it appear as though it was happening as a result of being inspired by Obama’s own election."

"Basically, what we have is a bunch of people in Egypt defrauded by an illegitimate, lying campaign – reminds me of some others," he said. "What did anybody think was going to happen? Who are these people? They’re not exactly the Founding Fathers of this country. What did people think they are? These are basically militant Islamists."

Limbaugh also turned his frustration towards Republicans, who he said were focused on the wrong issues like immigration when they should be going after the Affordable Care Act and other matters that he thinks could garner them broader political support.

"I think it’s a golden opportunity for the Republicans to get back in people’s good graces and stand for something the American people actually stand for," Limbaugh told Fox of opposition across the country from many to the implementation of the healthcare plan.

"They’re using Obamacare and these exchanges to grow the Democrat party," he said of those on the left.

Republicans are getting "skunked" on immigration reform, Limbaugh said, noting they should refocus on other crucial policies, lest they come up losers in the 2014 election, which he called a possibility.

"Yeah, the Republicans are in the process of engaging in policies guaranteed to lose them elections," Limbaugh told Fox when asked if indeed he felt the party was vulnerable in midterm elections next year.

Limbaugh, in speaking with Fox & Friends, smacked Secretary of State John Kerry for his inability to do his job. He also called out Obama, saying "everything about this administration is image, sideshow, perception, photo op, optics.”

He also said the centuries old opposition between Israel and Palestine are destined to continue over and over without end.

"The only way that conflict is ever gong to be solved is when there is an acknowledged loser who surrenders. Until that happens, all of this is meaningless.

"Look at all the work Clinton and Arafat did," Limbaugh said, adding the work of Jimmy Carter as well. "It didn't matter a wit."

"All of this to me is sadly predictable," he said.
