A U.S. airstrike against Syria would merely be doing al-Qaida's bidding, claims former Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich.
"So what, we're about to become al-Qaida's air force now?" Kucinich said in an interview with The Hill
. "This is a very serious matter that has broad implications internationally. And to try to minimize it by saying we're just going to have a 'targeted strike' — that's an act of war. It's not anything to be trifled with."
The Obama administration is considering cruise missile attacks from American destroyers in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, according to The New York Times
There is no proof yet that Syrian government forces used chemical weapons, the former Ohio congressman said. "This is being used as a pretext. The verdict is in before the facts have been gathered. What does that tell you?"
Kucinich also said Obama must gain congressional approval for any military attack against Syria or he would be breaking the Constitution.
Kucinich has been known as one of the most liberal members of Congress during his eight terms. He was defeated in a Democratic primary last year after his Cleveland-area district had been redrawn.
