Noting "serious concerns" about FBI special counsel Robert Mueller's potential conflicts of interests in his probe of Russian election interference, Rep. Brian Babin, R-Texas, furnished a letter to congressmen calling for Mueller to appear before Congress, The Daily Caller reported.

"Every nominee for United States Attorney must be confirmed by the Senate, a process that brings to the forefront any concerns regarding the nominee’s ability to hold their position in a decent and impartial manner," Babin's letter to House members read, per the report. "However, as special counsel Robert S. Mueller III and his team of lawyers investigate our very own president, we as a nation wait in the dark with very little information about those given this great authority."

Babin's concerns center on Mueller's personal relationship to fired FBI Director James Comey and the building of a legal team of those who have donated to Democrats or have represented Hillary Clinton. President Donald Trump has ripped those conflicts as "ridiculous," but he has publicly claimed he has no plans to fire the special counsel.

"I can say that the people that have been hired are all Hillary Clinton supporters," Trump told Fox & Friends in June. "Some of them worked for Hillary Clinton. I mean, the whole thing is ridiculous if you want to know the truth from that standpoint. But, Robert Mueller is an honorable man, and hopefully he will come up within a honorable solution."

Babin's letter was sent to congressmen Thursday and asks for members to sign and send it to House and Senate Judiciary committee chairs, Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., and Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa.

"In addition, this investigation has the potential to drag on for months, or even years, and cost millions in taxpayer dollars," Babin's letter added, per the Caller.
