Jacksonville Mayor: City Has Money to Rebuild

Tuesday, 12 Sep 2017 08:12 AM

The mayor of Jacksonville, Florida, says his city has the money it needs to begin rebuilding after Hurricane Irma.

Mayor Lenny Curry told NBC's "Today" show Tuesday that his city is on firm financial ground. He said it can begin rebuilding as it works with the federal and state governments to secure additional funding.

Curry said he doesn't have an estimate for what it will cost to repair the damage.

In Washington, Brock Long, administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, said officials are keeping an eye on flooding in Jacksonville from the St. John River.

Long said authorities are still conducting "life-safety" missions in Jacksonville due to the severe flooding.

Mayor Curry said the flooding could take weeks to subside.
