At least one Republican proponent of defunding Obamacare acknowledges it is time to reassess after losing the battle Wednesday night.
Every Republican, whether voting for or against the extension of the debt ceiling and temporary funding of the government, should "go home and have a period of self-reflection," Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., told Fox News Channel's Megan Kelly
just before the House vote.
Saying the shutdown had been difficult for a lot of innocent people, Gowdy said he needs to improve his ability to convince his colleagues that raising the debt ceiling for the 82nd time is not good for the country.
"I'm not going to cast stones at anybody other than myself," said the former federal prosecutor. "I didn't lose a lot of cases in court, and I haven't won many cases in politics. So, I need to go evaluate my tactics."
