President Barack Obama pledged Monday that Iran never will have a nuclear weapon as long as he is in office.
“The clock is ticking,” Obama said in his debate with GOP challenger Mitt Romney at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla. “If they don’t meet the demands of the international community, we’re going to take every action possible to make sure they don’t get it.”
But Romney concurred.
“A nuclear program in Iran is not acceptable for us,” he said, adding that the country was “four years closer to a nuclear weapon.”
He said the US needed to have “crippling sanctions” on Iran – that the sanctions already in place need to be tightened further. “We need to tighten those sanctions.”
Romney also said that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad should be indicted in world courts for the genocide of its people – and that “military options would be the last possible resort only, only, if other options are not effective.”
