Rep. Allen West has chastised “pundits” who have criticized the Marines seen in a video urinating on the bodies of dead Taliban soldiers, saying “unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, shut your mouth; war is hell.”

The Florida Republican, a former Army lieutenant colonel, said in an email to the Weekly Standard: “All these over-emotional pundits and armchair quarterbacks need to chill. Does anyone remember the two soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who were beheaded and gutted in Iraq?”

But he does acknowledge that “the Marines were wrong” and should be punished.
