Former President Bill Clinton will cut short an overseas trip to speak at beloved former New York City Mayor Ed Koch’s funeral on Monday,
according to The New York Post.
Quoting Koch's close friend and spokesman George Arzt, the paper said that Clinton will deliver the speech on behalf of President Obama, who is not planning to attend the service at Manhatten's Temple Emanu-El.
“President Clinton is in Japan. He’s cutting his trip short to come back,” Arzt told the Post.
Koch supported Hillary Clinton during her 2008 run against Obama and was said to have been "very helpful" during her run for the Senate.
“They talked on a lot of issues and the mayor was very helpful during her [Hillary Clinton’s] campaign for senate,” Arzt said.
