Smart lipo is an FDA-approved, minimally invasive alternative to traditional liposuction surgery used for removing excess body fat. Considered a breakthrough in body contouring and cosmetic surgery, smart lipo is an effective way of performing liposuction using laser technology. Smart lipo is a highly efficient laser procedure with minimal cuts and bruising and significantly fewer side effects than traditional liposuction.

What is smart lipo?
Before evaluating smart lipo, let us first understand how laser technology works. Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (LASER) is a frequency-adjusted light beam or ray that is directed toward the patient’s skin, eye, or even teeth to achieve desired results. Since there are no physical cuts or incisions made on the skin surface, the technology is considered relatively painless, safe, precise, and minimally invasive.

Smart liposuction uses laser technology to liquefy fat deposits present in the middle layers of the skin surface. Selective fat cells are ruptured and the fluid is drained off through a tiny incision, leaving the skin smooth and unwrinkled. General anaesthesia is rarely needed and the recovery period is also quite short (one can go back to their daily routine within a day or two) after smart lipo treatment.

Who can undergo smart liposuction?
Almost all healthy people with body weight not exceeding 25 to 30 pounds of their ideal body weight are considered fit candidates for smart liposuction. The smart lipo technique is usually recommended for people who wish to get rid of localized fat accumulation in the abdomen, thighs, hips, or love handles. The smart lipo laser can also be used for other body parts such as the face, breasts, double chin, or neck. However, pregnant women or people with heart ailments, kidney disorders, hypertension, or diabetes are usually not advised to undergo smart liposuction.

What are the risks of smart lipo?
Although risk factors and side effects of smart lipo are quite limited, the minor and temporary effects of smart lipo can range from localized swelling to mild bruising and redness around the treated site. The medical status of the person who wishes to undergo smart lipo must be studied carefully to prevent any associated complications. It is also important to choose an experienced and qualified cosmetic surgeon for undergoing smart lipo treatment.

Points in favor of smart lipo:
  • Adipose tissue is quite tough and a lot of effort is required to reduce it. Smart lipo seems to be the perfect solution for people who have tried and failed through diets and exercise to lose love handles or other fat deposits.
  • The Smart lipo laser procedure has been approved by the FDA since 2006 and is considered safe when conducted under experienced supervision.
  • Smart lipo costs and side effects are lower than traditional liposuction methods.
Smart lipo does not undermine the benefits of a healthy diet and regular exercise.
