How Do I Know If I'm Pregnant?

Everyone knows the usual sign of pregnancy is missing a menstrual cycle, but in many cases, that doesn't happen. Stories have been told about women who make it all the way to delivery day, never knowing they were pregnant. How could this happen, you may be asking yourself. How can a person not know they're pregnant. In some cases, the signs are neglected or misdiagnosed. So, you may be asking yourself, how do I know if I'm pregnant? Take a look at the following signs:
  • Sore Breasts-Perhaps putting your bra on was a bit painful this morning or maybe they simply feel heavier than before. Tender, sore breasts are one of the first signs of pregnancy you may notice. The areolas become darker and the veins of the breasts become more prominent.
  • Extreme Tiredness-This could be your body's reaction to increased hormones. Sudden exhaustion is a common side effect of pregnancy.
  • Nausea-Some call it morning sickness, but this queasiness, which is sometimes combined with vomiting, can occur any time of the day. It usually starts around the six week point and goes into the second trimester.
  • Frequent Urination-If you can't make it through the night without several trips to the bathroom, this could be a sign of pregnancy. When you're pregnant, the body makes extra fluids and gets the bladder working overtime.
  • Headaches-Frequent headaches often occur during pregnancy due to the hormonal changes in your body.
  • Backaches-If you are not normally prone to backaches and they suddenly appear with no good reason, you could be pregnant. While many symtoms disappear over the course of the nine months, backaches will last throughout the pregnancy as your body adjusts to the front load.
If you experience any of the above symptoms, it doesn't mean that you're pregnant, but if these symptoms are appearing for no good reason and in conjunction with any of the others, it may be time for you to get a home pregnancy test and find out for certain. If you get positive results, you are indeed pregnant and you should call and make an appointment with your doctor for further instructions.
