Demand for Painkillers Spurs Violence

Friday, 01 Jul 2011 11:41 AM

Pharmacies are seeing a dramatic increase in robberies and violence as desperate addicts are resorting to violent means to obtain popular painkillers like hydrocodone, reports The Inquisitr.

Recently in Long Island, a robber entered a drugstore and shot four people dead in order to steal the 10,000 hydrocodone pills the pharmacy had in stock.

Analysts attribute the rise in painkiller-related crimes to both the growing number of uninsured Americans and the FDA crackdown on online pharmacies.

Drugstores in high-crime areas are looking into additional security measures to keep their employees safe.
