Bin Laden May Have Used Herbal Viagra

By Martin Gould   |   Tuesday, 10 May 2011 11:26 AM

Osama bin Laden had to resort to a herbal remedy to relieve impotence problems, photographs from inside his compound appear to show. Avena syrup — fittingly an extract of wild oats — was among the cures pictured on bin Laden’s medicine shelf, the New York Daily News reports.

But the youngest of his four widows denies that her much-older husband needed any help in the bedroom. “He was neither weak nor frail,” Amal Ahmed Abdul Fatah, 29, told Pakistani officials.

Avena, known as “herbal Viagra” often is used to increase sexual desire and potency. It also can be used as an artificial sweetener.

Avena is commonly available in herbal supplement shops in the United States, selling for $11.70 an ounce, according to the Daily News. "It's about male virility," said Jo-Jo Sherrow, a saleswoman at Flower Power in Manhattan’s East Village. "It increases male sperm count and motility."
