Oscar winner Helen Mirren has signed on to replace Bette Midler in HBO’s upcoming Phil Spector biopic. The film also stars Al Pacino as the ill-fated record producer and “Arrested Development” actor Jeffrey Tambor, reports Playbill.

Midler was scheduled to play Linda Kenney Baden, an attorney who defended Spector during his first murder trial, but withdrew suddenly due to a herniated disk. According to Deadline, HBO Films was forced to halt production after six days of filming but will continue shooting next week with Mirren on board.

The as-yet-untitled film, written and directed by David Mamet, will center on the relationship between Spector and Baden. Spector found fame by producing records for girl groups in the 1960s and then later for big-name stars like Ike and Tina Turner, The Beatles, and John Lennon.
