Best Colleges for Communications

The field of communications includes many careers. A person with a communications degree can work in everything from broadcast media to theater to advertising and PR. There are many universities that have a school of communications or communications programs. But the one thing that a person who wants to get a degree needs to know is what the best colleges for communications degrees are. They include:

1. University of Pennsylvania: The Annenberg School of Communications is always rated as the top school of communications in the US. Their program covers a wide range of specializations. This college also requires that its communications majors take 14 courses that are communications specific. The students also have the chance to study abroad as well as internship and independent study opportunities.
2. University of Michigan at Ann Arbor: The program offered at this college is more geared towards the media aspect of the communications field. Part of their studies include looking at how media has affected history and how it will continue to impact society. This program also looks at how media and technology affect each other and society.
3. Massachusetts Institute of Technology: When people think about universities that offer communications degrees, MIT isn't generally one that springs to mind. MIT's program is the Comparative Media Department. They focus on television, film, video game design, and interactive writing. This major is also available as a second major, minor, and concentration.
4. University of Iowa: The field of communications is so important to this college that their Communications Studies degree is the third largest major for the entire school. This program takes a very broad view of the field of communications. Because of this, their degree program is very flexible and easy to customize.
5. University of Texas, Austin: The program at this university focuses on the social use of communication, interpersonal communication, how communication is used in politics and in organizations. They offer a graduate program that is the top program in the country.

There are many colleges that offer communications degrees. The trick is to find the one that is best for a particular field. All the different programs focus on different aspects of the field.
