How to Find a Bail Bondsman

Wednesday, 27 Oct 2010 10:07 AM

Getting arrested could happen to anyone. Someone who has been arrested for the first time would not be aware of what to do, especially if they don't have the cash to pay for bail. That is when you need the help of a bail bondsman to bail yourself out.
What does a bail bond agent do? They provide bail to the person charged and are basically responsible for ensuring that the guilty party appears in court during trial. At times, bail bond agents also hire bounty hunters to trace any accused person who has fled, to make them stand trial in court.
Here are some quick tips for finding the right bail bondsman:

Search the business pages in the phone book. Always write down the name of the bail bondsman you have been speaking to.
Whenever you call a bail bondsman, be upfront about the fees. Generally, bail bondsmen charge 10% of the bail amount that you have been charged. For instance, if you have been charged around $1,000 for your bail, you need to pay $100 to the bail bondsman.  However, many bail bondsmen charge a minimum amount of $100, regardless. This amount has to be paid in cash because the bail bondsman won't take any other form of payment.
It is important that the bail bondsman meets the guilty, preferably in jail. They need to meet the person they are providing bail to. You will have to provide them necessary information like your name, address, phone number, social security number, and some references.
Bail bonds use to be very expensive, but recently they have become quite affordable. However, if you are looking at saving a few dollars, this is how you should proceed:

Find the average bail bond cost in your city. To get this amount, you need to know the average amount charged for bail outside the city. This average cost will make it easier for you to get the lowest bail bond services.
You must search out bail bond agencies that can provide numerous services at the best price. You can always call for an initial consultation and then decide on which agent you want to use.
You must choose the right bail bondsman with an affordable price. Ensure one’s bonds agent is not only affordable but also has all the know-how about various proceedings. You should never hire a bond agent by taking only the fees into consideration. Always hire someone who shows a genuine interest in your case. Never risk your case with someone who you can’t trust, because you will be risking your loved one’s destiny. Follow these tips and you should be able to bail out a loved one without any hassle.
