Acute Stress Disorder: How Diet Plays a Role

Acute Stress Disorder (ASD) is a condition involving psychiatric assessment that is given to individuals in the first month after a traumatic event. This is also known as acute stress reaction, psychological shock, mental shock, or simply a shock with associated dissociative amnesia. Some of the common symptoms of acute stress disorder are numbing, detachment, dissociative amnesia, avoidance of situation, and stress anxiety. The symptoms of acute stress disorder overlap many of the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. The individual may re-experience the traumatic event in dreams, nightmares, and painful memories.
 
Acute stress disorder may result in either loss of appetite or over eating, both of which can result in a number of metabolic conditions that can cause acute stress on the metabolism and lead to metabolic disruption. Even though there is no specific food or diet to relieve stress anxiety or traumatic stress, some foods for acute stress disorder can calm a few of the symptoms like stress anxiety.
 
The best acute stress disorder diet is to maintain a healthy and well-balanced diet. Eating healthy meals will keep your body well-nourished and strong. Caffeine should be avoided, just like alcohol and nicotine, for reducing stress anxiety. A diet for acute stress disorder should include the consumption of more fresh vegetables, whole grains, and fruits. Small meals in frequent intervals are also good. A healthy diet will contain proteins, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats for avoiding blood and sugar imbalance.
 
Supplements for acute stress disorder should include a multivitamin on a daily basis, like those containing antioxidants and vitamins A, C, E, and B-complex along with trace minerals such as magnesium, calcium, zinc, and selenium. Probiotic supplements are useful to boost the maintenance of gastrointestinal and immune health of the body following acute stress disorder. Drinking tea, preferably black tea, is good for health because it contains sufficient L-theanine that helps the nervous system and supports the immune system which reduces the physical reaction to stress anxiety.

Using healthy cooking oil, eating fruits, and exercising regularly are some of the best ways to combat stress and anxiety.
