Social Networking Sites

Friday, 10 Dec 2010 12:56 PM

In a world connected by the Internet, a person sitting in Milwaukee can simultaneously chat with people in Sydney, Dar-e-Salaam, Shanghai, and Mexico at the press of a few buttons. Social networking sites are a novel concept that evolved from chat rooms into social dating sites and have now grown into fully fledged social networking sites. Social networking sites can even help you make friends.
Social networking sites are being used by children, students, adults, and the elderly with increasing frequency. These sites help to build newer forms of  relationships. Social networking sites not only allow you to connect with long lost friends but also allow you to manage your existing relationships, with your fellow employees, boss, colleagues, or academic friends.
What do these sites offer? Social networking sites can range from general interest sites like Facebook or MySpace to professional communities like LinkedIn to passionate hobby communities like Ravelry or Flickr. Some of the best social networking sites for getting friends are Friendster, tagged, myshutterspace, hi5, netlog and of course Facebook and MySpace.
