An ink cartridge or inkjet cartridge is a replaceable part of an inkjet printer. The cartridge contains the ink which spreads itself appropriately on the paper during printing.
Ink cartridge prices are quite high. Users can buy cheaper ink cartridges from third-party vendors as long as they are compatible with their printers.
Printer cartridges manufactured by the original manufacturer are costly. Cheaper alternatives provided by other parties (other than the original manufacturers; they are called third party options) have become popular. Amongst these alternatives are cheap ink cartridge refill kits.
The set of tools and ink we use to refill ink cartridges are collectively called an ink refill kit. The tools used, the type of ink chosen, and the amount of ink used, depends upon the ink cartridge to be refilled. With the help of the refill kit, consumers can buy ink at a much cheaper price than new ink cartridges.
Usually, the tools include a cartridge holder, some needles, and some bottles of ink. The contents of the ink refill kit depend upon the cartridge to be refilled. Some tools are common to all kits – for example, the tools necessary for refilling. After all, every cartridge has to be refilled, whatever its design, make, or brand.
Refill kits usually come with bottles of black ink. They also come with a bottle each of cyan, magenta, and yellow for color refill kits. Photo-color refill kits come with a bottle each of photo cyan, photo magenta, and photo black. If you need a combo refill kit, they come with a combination of all colors.
Many buy discount inkjet printer cartridges because cartridge prices are much higher. The cost of replacing the inkjet cartridges adds up quickly. Cheaper inkjet printer cartridges are marketed by some companies which allows you to save money on cartridges. These are called discount inkjet printer cartridges. These discount cartridges, which are nothing but cheap ink cartridges, can match the ink cartridges manufactured by the original manufacturers in quality. At times, the discount could be as high as 50%!
A discount cartridge, the compatible cartridge, or cheap cartridge is a brand new ink cartridge manufactured by a third party (a party other than the original manufacturer) for use in the brand name it is compatible with. For example, an Epson®-compatible cartridge is not made by Epson, but by a third party. It meets the original manufacturer’s (Epson’s) specifications.
Using such discount or cheap cartridges will not void your warranty. Under the relevant law (called the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Improvement Act), using compatible or remanufactured cartridges will not void your printer's warranty. The original manufacturer cannot sell a product on the condition that the consumer must purchase replacement parts, add-ons, etc., for it.
