Wednesday, 06 Jul 2011 11:53 AM

PTSD, short for post-traumatic stress disorder, is a type of anxiety disorder that can arise as a result of a traumatic event.

Some events that may cause PTSD are assault, domestic abuse, rape, war, or natural disasters. These traumatic events have serious psychological consequences on the sufferers.

PTSD can affect anyone at any age. Many of the symptoms of PTSD are out of the patient’s control and are a completely biological response to a traumatic incident.

Know that PTSD is a real medical disorder that can cause serious disability and can be an enormous risk for the patient. Proper medical attention is imperative and should be sought immediately in instances where an individual may be thought to have PTSD.
