Hand-held electronic games can be great companions at all times. Age is immaterial when it comes to electronic hand-held games as they entertain both adults and children. A series of games across popular platforms and consoles are available these days to make the most of a holiday or spare time! The top five games across all categories and age groups would probably be as follows:

1. Scrabble: It is one of the best board games of all times. It is a game that can be played either alone or with a partner and can still be engaging. Other board games of similar popularity include Yahtzee and Connect Four. These games help build a child’s vocabulary and with touch screen gaming consoles its more fun to play!

2. Need for Speed: Every pre-teens ultimate fantasy, Need for Speed remains one of the top five children's electronic hand-held games with its adrenaline pumping frenzied action. This car racing game is a coveted game especially when played on Sony’s Portable Playstation. Other action games that pre-teens absolutely love are Daxters and Transformers.

3. Sudoku: It is an electronic hand-held game that engages those of all ages. This game attracts adults as much as it does children. Sudoku enhances children's analytical abilities. Among puzzle games it is extremely popular. The electronic Sudoku offers numerous variations on the traditional game making it all the more interesting.

4. Super Mario: The Super Mario series of games are an all-time hit. With newer versions being launched on more interactive consoles like Nintendo’s Gameboy, this game continues to remain a favorite mostly with children.

5. Disney/Movie-themed games: Disney movies like "Toy Story" or "Cars" make excellent electronic video games and are enjoyed immensely by Disney-adoring kids. Similarly, games based on movie super-heroes like Harry Potter, Batman, and Superman find a huge fan following in the electronic hand-held game section.

The market for electronic hand-held games for kids is exploding and with newer technologies like the iPad and the updated versions of Nintendo they are set to find a larger and firmer fan following among next generation children and adults alike.
