Increased awareness about the importance of fitness has made programs like pilates, yoga, and aerobics increasingly popular. Many people research pilates and yoga on the Internet and many magazines are stuffed with attention-grabbing news about these pilates, yoga, and aerobic techniques. Pilates and yoga have the same goal — mind-body control.

Bikram Yoga or Hot Yoga, is a creative technique developed by Bikram Choudhary, which emerged in the late 20th century as a specially designed Yoga Program. Bikram Yoga claims to mobilize joints, strengthen muscles, and rejuvenate the entire body. Some experts claim that Bikram Choudhary derived Bikram Yoga from the classical Patanjali System of Yoga. Asanas, or what they call Bikram posture, in Bikram Yoga are practised in a specific sequential manner.

Bikram Yoga, which is also called Hot Yoga, includes a sequence of 26 Bikram postures and 2 breathing exercises in a 90-minute session. Some of these Bikram postures include half-moon pose, eagle pose, and triangle pose.

Bikram Yoga is practised in a hot room at a temperature of 1050 F and relative humidity of 40-50%. Bikram Choudhary claims Bikram Yoga is effective for total wellness, and relieving mental stress. Bikram Yoga also helps enhance the lung capacity allowing you to inhale more oxygen, thus improving circulation. In some cases, beginners in Bikram Yoga may experience dizziness and nausea.

Hot Yoga demands strict discipline and focus on the Bikram postures. The extension and compression mechanism, otherwise referred to as the “tourniquet effect” in Hot Yoga, increases circulation in every joint, muscle, and organ of body. In Hot Yoga, the bones get strengthened while working against gravity.

There are many Bikram Yoga studios across the globe. They are also known as Bikram Yoga City Halls, and are located in Chicago, Singapore, Kanas (Missouri), and Makati city. Bikram Yoga is a safe, special form of Yoga requiring appropriate training and knowledge. Therefore, Bikram Choudhary recommends learning Bikram Yoga from Bikram Yoga certified instructors. Bikram Choudhary, the creator of Bikram Yoga, personally trains instructors.

Many products, including Bikram Yoga DVDs, are available at studios. For example, Bikram Yoga DVDs for pregnant women have postures for different stages of pregnancy. This Bikram Yoga DVD is a unique and complete learning experience for pregnant women.  Bikram Yoga DVDs are designed for each level, from beginners to experts.
