LOS ANGELES -- The football-inspired drama "The Blind Side" has become the underdog hit of the season with a weekend box-office victory over "The Twilight Saga: New Moon."

The real-life tale "The Blind Side" took over the No. 1 spot with $20.4 million in its third weekend. The vampire romance "New Moon" finished second with $15.7 million after two weekends in first-place.

"The Blind Side" had been the No. 2 movie for the previous two weekends but has hung on with great fan buzz. The film stars Sandra Bullock as a woman whose family adopts homeless teen Michael Oher, now a rookie tackle for the Baltimore Ravens.

"New Moon" still is far ahead in total gross with $255.6 million domestically, compared to $129.3 million for "The Blind Side."
