The National Journal argues there are two types of Republicans that will decide the presidential election: populist and managers. The Journal says the differences between the two groups are of style and culture. The populist tends to be suspicious of the elites and stress their social conservatism.

Sarah Palin is the best know and most popular among the populists.

According to the journal, the managers tend to tout their fiscal conservative credentials and mingle easily among the elite.
