Republicans Take to Reality TV

By Donna White   |   Tuesday, 05 Oct 2010 07:06 PM

It’s not just Bristol Palin doing the cha-cha in front of millions of “Dancing with the Stars’’ watchers: More Republicans are appearing on reality shows, according to the Los Angeles Times. Republicans – both candidates and their families – are finding they can connect with ordinary Americans by appearing on TV shows. Former "The Real World" star Sean Duffy is running for Congress in Wisconsin while Palin’s mom, Sarah, is a Fox News commentator and will have her own show called "Sarah Palin’s Alaska."

“Dancing with the Stars” has already attracted conservatives such as former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and conservative commentator Tucker Carlson. Even Sen. John McCain’s wife Cindy has considered appearing.

The TV shows humanize Republicans and help many lose their stuffed-shirt image, the newspaper reported. It can also help others establish their own identity. Bristol Palin, 20, has shown herself to be more than a single mom. Still, her mom stole the show recently when she appeared in the audience.
