LONDON -- The Irish actor Richard Todd has died of cancer at age 90.

His family said Todd died Thursday in England.

Todd drew on his wartime exploits as a British army paratrooper in the 1962 film "The Longest Day," was nominated for an Academy Award for the 1949 film "A Hasty Heart," which also featured Ronald Reagan, and starred as the American pastor Peter Marshall in "A Man Called Peter" in 1954.

In Britain, one of his best-known roles was playing Royal Air Force pilot Guy Gibson in "The Dam Busters."
