Is Exercise the Only Way to Lose Belly Fat?

Question: I have a big stomach and I work a lot of hours at work, so I don’t have time to exercise. Is there anything else I can do to lose my fat belly?

Dr. Hibberd’s answer:
 
Yes. You need to eat less. The calories you consume must be less than the calories you burn through exercise and activity to lose weight.
 
Abdominal obesity is often seen in diabetes and in cases of a condition called Syndrome X. Sometimes liver disease can give you a "beer belly." See your doctor to be sure you are not diabetic, or that some other endocrine disorder or condition of your liver or abdomen is not hindering your ability to lose your tummy.
 
Exercise will help tone your abdominal wall, but if you are retaining a large belly, be sure to be screened for underlying disease.
